The KENNAMETAL 1163315 is a solid carbide profiling insert in the Top Notch series, designed for profiling and turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the K68 fine-grain carbide grade and an uncoated WC-Co finish, making it well-suited for cutting non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium where a sharp, uncoated edge reduces built-up edge and maintains surface finish. The parallelogram-shaped insert measures 0.375 inches in length, 0.25 inches in width, and 0.125 inches in thickness, with a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (0.40 mm). Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the left-hand orientation with a negative rake and zero relief angle suits standard screw-clamped Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is intended for profiling and turning applications in metalworking environments — primarily production machining shops, toolrooms, and maintenance machining operations. It targets non-ferrous metal workpiece materials such as aluminum, copper alloys, and brass, as well as superalloys and titanium. The K68 fine-grain carbide grade provides the toughness and edge integrity needed when cutting these demanding materials at controlled feed rates and depths. Maximum depth of cut is 0.125 inches, consistent with its geometry as a profiling insert rather than a heavy roughing tool. Installation requires a compatible Top Notch screw-clamp toolholder accepting an NPL51 insert seat.
Designed for use in Top Notch series screw-clamp toolholders accepting NPL51 insert style seats. ISO code KCGX110304L15 and standards designations NPL51 and KCGX110304L15 apply to this insert.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and ensure the seat pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Rotating to a fresh cutting edge follows the same lockout procedure.
