The KENNAMETAL 1163283 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision metal removal on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It carries the NPL505 insert style designation and Kennametal grade K313, a fine-grain uncoated carbide grade suited for demanding finishing and profiling operations. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a 55-degree included angle, negative rake geometry, and a 0-degree relief angle. With four cutting edges and a corner radius of 0.005 inches, it delivers consistent edge performance in high-precision turning and profiling applications. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is intended for profiling and turning operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Its left-hand orientation and screw-holding method make it suitable for use in compatible Top Notch toolholders configured for left-hand cutting. The uncoated WC-Co surface finish and fine-grain carbide substrate are well-matched to applications where edge sharpness and surface finish quality are critical, such as aerospace component turning or precision contour work on titanium and nickel-based alloys.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders configured for left-hand NPL505 inserts. ISO code equivalent is KCGX110301L15. Compatible primary workpiece materials are non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes N and S).
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician into a compatible Top Notch screw-lock toolholder. Power down and zero out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and edge alignment.
