The KENNAMETAL 1163217 is a solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the Top Notch series, engineered for precision metal removal on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries the NPL51 insert style designation with ISO code KCGX110304L15 and is coated with TiN via a PVD process using manufacturer grade KC730, a wear-resistant grade suited for P10, P20, M10, M20, S10, and S20 material classifications. The insert features a parallelogram shape, a negative rake geometry, a 55-degree included angle, and four cutting edges, making it a productive choice for profiling and turning operations in CNC and manual turning centers. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert during scheduled tooling maintenance.
This insert is designed for profiling and turning applications on ferrous and exotic workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.1250 inches and a compact inscribed circle of 0.2500 inches, it suits finish and semi-finish turning passes where edge geometry control is critical. The left-hand configuration directs cutting forces appropriately for specific toolholder orientations in the Top Notch series. It is screw-held and uses a common chipbreaker geometry compatible with standard insert pockets in that series.

This insert is installed and indexed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten or use improvised drivers. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
