The KENNAMETAL 1163055 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CPGM32.51 geometry, manufactured to both ANSI and ISO standards. It carries the ISO designation CPGM09T304 and is made from Kennametal K68 carbide grade. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. It provides 2 cutting edges per insert and is designed for screw-on holding. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/64-inch corner radius make this insert well suited for finishing and medium machining passes on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys.
This insert is intended for use in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The K68 grade delivers high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness, covering ISO material groups M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium). It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both left- and right-hand toolholders using the CPGM insert seat style. Medium machining chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow during moderate depth-of-cut operations, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in CPGM-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with an 80-degree diamond seat. Tolerance code G and clearance code P apply. Sold in a minimum order quantity of 5 inserts, packaged individually.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installing the insert. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver for the screw-on insert fastener — refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for the correct torque value. Index or replace the insert when flank wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation is observed; do not attempt to regrind uncoated carbide inserts in the field.
