The KENNAMETAL 1163054 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CPGM style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning equipment. Carrying the ANSI insert code CPGM32505 and ISO code CPGM09T302, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. The uncoated K68 carbide grade delivers high wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it well suited for finishing and medium machining passes. With a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle and a tight 0.0079-inch corner radius, the insert produces accurate surface finishes in demanding applications. Holding method is screw-on, and the insert provides two usable cutting edges per piece.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The K68 uncoated carbide grade targets ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S, offering a broad range of workpiece compatibility in both light finishing and medium stock-removal scenarios. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shops, production machining facilities, and aerospace or general manufacturing environments where tight tolerances and consistent edge performance are required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders configured for CPGM geometry.
Designed for use in screw-on CPGM-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with workpiece materials in ISO categories P (stainless steel), M (stainless and heat-resistant alloys), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium). Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper contact and edge repeatability.
