The KENNAMETAL 1162901 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPGM32.51 configuration, coated with TiN via a PVD process for high wear resistance. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance, making it suited for efficient chip control during medium machining operations. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/64-inch corner radius define its geometry, while the KC730 grade delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. It is held in place with a screw-on mounting method and offers two cutting edges per insert.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. It performs across a range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary suitability for additional stainless and high-temperature alloy grades. The KC730 grade with TiN coating is positioned for high to moderate wear-resistance applications where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities. The insert follows both ANSI (CPGM3251) and ISO (CPGM09T304) standards, making it a broadly compatible choice for shops using toolholders built to either specification. It ships in single-unit packages with a minimum order quantity of 5.
Conforms to ANSI insert code CPGM3251 and ISO insert code CPGM09T304. Fits screw-on style toolholders designed for CPGM-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a torx or hex key to secure the insert screw in the toolholder pocket. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine is powered down and the spindle is fully stopped. Seat the insert firmly and evenly in the pocket without forcing or rocking it, as uneven seating can cause premature edge failure. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before installing a new insert.
