The KENNAMETAL 1162887 is a solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiN coating and a triangular 60-degree geometry. Carrying the KC730 manufacturer grade, it is designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The insert measures 0.4331 inches (11 millimeters) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.004-inch corner radius. An 11-degree relief angle and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and help manage chip flow. This style F chip breaker (T220F ANSI code) is suited for finishing to moderate material removal rates on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
The 1162887 is intended for turning applications requiring high wear resistance through moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material groups. Secondary suitability is noted for superalloys (S) and additional M-group materials. The screw-on holding method and positive side clearance geometry make it compatible with standard triangular insert pockets that accept T-style screw-on inserts. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 millimeters (0.0492 inches). This insert is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of five.
Designed for use in screw-on triangular insert toolholders accepting T-style inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. ANSI insert code T220, ISO insert code T110301, and industry standard number VNGA432T0820 apply. Compatible with ANSI size code 220 and ISO size code 110301 toolholders.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all stored energy released per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range for screw-on insert systems. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not force or overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
