The KENNAMETAL 1162775 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It carries the ANSI insert code TPU321 and ISO code TPU160304, with a triangular shape (60-degree included angle) offering three usable cutting edges. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN over a KC850 carbide grade substrate, delivering moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. It has a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake and side clearance geometry with a flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge style.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both light and moderate material removal applications. The KC850 grade targets steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials (ISO P and M classifications), with strong capability in cast iron (K) and special or super alloys (S) as well. It is appropriate for production machining environments where consistent edge life across varying material grades is required. The flat-top chip breaker geometry handles continuous and semi-interrupted cuts without a chip groove, making it a straightforward choice for general-purpose turning in job shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for use in KENDEX-series TPU-style toolholders that accept TPU321 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special or super alloys (S) workpiece materials per the KC850 grade classification.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Verify the toolholder pocket is clean and free of debris before seating the insert to avoid rocking or uneven contact. Clamp torque should follow the toolholder manufacturer specification for the clamp screw size used. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) specified for this insert geometry.
