The KENNAMETAL 1162622 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENDEX series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual turning centers. It carries the ANSI insert code SPU633 and ISO code SPU190412, with a KC850 grade multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate. The insert features a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, a 90-degree square shape, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry. With four cutting edges and a positive rake and side clearance, this insert delivers a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness suited to a range of production turning applications. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys. The KC850 grade is engineered to perform across ISO application categories P, M, K, and S, making it a versatile choice for job shops and production environments handling mixed workpiece materials. The flat-top chip breaker and honed cutting edge style support consistent chip control and edge stability at moderate to high cutting depths. It is suitable for both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on feed and speed selection.
Designed for use in KENDEX-series clamp-style toolholders accepting SPU633 square inserts with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle. Compatible with tooling systems conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards for SPU-style inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and all spindle motion confirmed stopped before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the KENDEX toolholder to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Always index to a fresh cutting edge rather than reusing a worn edge, and dispose of worn carbide inserts according to applicable shop waste protocols.
