The KENNAMETAL 1162393 is a solid carbide turning insert with the TPMT2152LF geometry and KC850 grade designation. It features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited for moderate to demanding cutting conditions. The triangular 60-degree insert offers three cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches, this insert is sized for finishing and light machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert on screw-on style toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work where surface finish and edge control are critical. The KC850 grade provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special or super alloy (S) material categories. It is a neutral-hand insert compatible with standard TPMT-style screw-on toolholding systems.
Designed for use in TPMT-style screw-on turning toolholders. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for TPMT2152 and TPMT110208 insert sizes, respectively, making it compatible with toolholders built to either standard.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine powered down and all axes at rest before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts can fracture under excessive clamp load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert, and index to a fresh cutting edge rather than re-using a worn edge on finishing work.
