The KENNAMETAL 1162382 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DPMT21.51LF configuration, coated with a multilayer CVD TiC/TiCN/TiN stack under the KC850 grade designation. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, making it well-suited for finishing and light machining passes. The insert measures 7.75 mm (0.6104 inches) in length with an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). It provides two cutting edges and is held by a screw-on method. Qualified machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in indexable toolholders on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is designed for finishing and light machining operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The KC850 grade targets steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and special or super alloys as additional supported materials. The positive side clearance and honed cutting edge style help minimize cutting forces on harder or work-hardening alloys. It conforms to both ANSI insert code DPMT2151 and ISO insert code DPMT070204, fitting standard DPMT-style screw-on toolholders used across a wide range of CNC and manual turning platforms.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for DPMT-style indexable turning toolholders conforming to ANSI code DPMT2151 and ISO code DPMT070204. Suitable for applications involving steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special or super alloys (S) workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and all motion arrested before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating surfaces for chips or damage before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
