The KENNAMETAL 1162377 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DCMT3252LF and ISO designation DCMT11T308, finished in a multilayer CVD-applied TiC, TiCN, and TiN coating under the KC850 grade. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, positive rake angle of 5 degrees, 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches) and a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0313 inches), this insert is engineered for finishing and light machining operations. It is installed using a screw-on holding method and carries two usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, as well as select superalloys. The KC850 grade provides moderate wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it a reliable choice across ISO material classification codes P, M, K, and S. It is appropriate for both horizontal and vertical CNC lathes in light-to-moderate material removal applications. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for fine-finish cuts and light feeds where surface finish and edge stability are critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for DCMT3252 screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible toolholders must accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle DCMT geometry with a 0.1732-inch (4.40 mm) screw hole diameter.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the screw-on clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not estimate by feel. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert; contamination in the pocket will cause premature edge failure. Verify insert orientation matches the intended cut direction before resuming spindle operation.
