The KENNAMETAL 1162371 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT32.51LF geometry, coated with a multilayer CVD TiC/TiCN/TiN finish under the KC850 grade designation. This screw-on insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, making it well-suited for finishing and light machining passes. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches), insert length is 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches), and insert thickness is 5/32 inches (0.1563 inches). The LF chip breaker geometry controls chip flow at light depths of cut, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible screw-on toolholders on turning centers and lathes.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and special or super alloys as secondary applications. The KC850 grade provides moderate wear resistance balanced with toughness, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The two cutting edges and honed cutting edge style make this insert appropriate for finishing passes on precision parts where surface quality and dimensional control are priorities. It performs in both light interrupted cuts and continuous finish cuts on a range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials.
Designed for use in screw-on CPMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Conforms to ANSI insert code CPMT3251 and ISO insert code CPMT09T304. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw hole diameter (0.1732 inches) before installation. Material grade classifications C5 and C6 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before each use; a chipped or worn edge should be indexed or replaced before resuming cuts.
