The KENNAMETAL 1162358 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for high-precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning operations. Manufactured to the KC850 grade, it features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards under the CCMT2152 and CCMT060208 codes respectively. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a honed cutting edge, and an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, this insert suits finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators install it using a standard screw-on holding method.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as special and super alloys. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, making it appropriate for tight-tolerance work and final-pass applications on both ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It carries material grade classifications of C5 and C6, which align with general-purpose and high-speed steel turning applications in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as a screw-on OEM-style turning insert conforming to ANSI insert code CCMT2152 and ISO insert code CCMT060208, compatible with toolholders designed for CCMT-style inserts with a screw-on clamping method.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body. Verify insert seating and runout before resuming cutting operations.
