The KENNAMETAL 1162255 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert with ANSI designation TCGT32.51HP and ISO designation TCGT16T304. It carries a K313 manufacturer grade and is designed for high-wear-resistance finishing operations on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it well suited for light, precise cuts with a honed cutting edge. It mounts via screw-on holding method and is rated for turning, facing, and boring applications. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the typical installers.
This insert is used in screw-on style turning toolholders for finishing passes on a range of materials including aluminum and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. With three cutting edges available per insert and a neutral hand orientation, it fits a broad range of toolholder setups on manual and CNC lathes. The uncoated bright finish preserves edge sharpness for materials that are sensitive to built-up edge, such as aluminum and non-ferrous alloys.
Designed for screw-on style toolholders that accept TCGT32.51 or TCGT16T304 inserts. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards. Suitable for CNC and manual lathe applications across material groups P, M, K, N, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling specialists. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-tighten, as this can chip the insert or damage the screw seat. Inspect the toolholder pocket and screw for wear before inserting a new edge.
