The KENNAMETAL 1162195 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPGT style, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a relief angle of 11 degrees, which together reduce cutting forces and improve surface finish. The insert is uncoated (bright finish) with a honed cutting edge, making it well suited for applications where a sharp, free-cutting edge is critical. It uses a screw-on holding method and provides two usable cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this grade for finishing passes requiring tight tolerances.
This insert is intended for finishing and light-duty turning, facing, and boring operations. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, and also performs in stainless steel and cast iron applications where high wear resistance and moderate toughness are required. Its positive side clearance and positive rake design minimize built-up edge on aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and compact geometry make it appropriate for smaller-diameter boring bars and tight-clearance toolholders commonly used in production and job-shop turning environments.
Designed as a screw-on replacement insert for CPGT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 3251 and ISO size code 09T304. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1732-inch (4.40 mm) hole diameter. Verify toolholder clearance angle and screw size before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and clamp pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
