The KENNAMETAL 1161940 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DPGT3251HP geometry, coated with TiN via a PVD process and graded KC730. It is designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, combined with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, promotes clean shearing action and reduced cutting forces. With a 0.3750-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert targets tight-tolerance, low-stock-removal finishing passes. It holds two usable cutting edges and mounts via screw-on clamping. Machinists and CNC operators working in job-shop or production environments will recognize the HP chip breaker designation as optimized for fine finishing cuts.
This insert is intended for finishing and light turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for additional stainless and superalloy grades. The KC730 grade is characterized by high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron material groups. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), confirming its role in finishing rather than roughing work. This insert is sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces per transaction.
Designed for use in screw-on style DPGT toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for wear or contamination before seating a new insert to maintain positional accuracy.
