The KENNAMETAL 1161924 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designed for precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. It carries the ANSI insert code DCGT3252 and ISO code DCGT11T308, with a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces in light finishing passes. The insert measures 11.63 mm (0.9156 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 5/32-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The KC730 grade is engineered for high wear resistance with moderate toughness across ISO material groups P, M, and K. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing-depth cuts up to 1.25 mm.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on CNC and manual lathes. Its neutral hand orientation and screw-on holding method make it compatible with a wide range of DCGT-style toolholders. The positive side clearance and honed cutting edge style help deliver tight surface finishes on steel and stainless steel workpieces in both job-shop and production environments. It is appropriate for residential-scale machine shops through industrial production settings where consistent surface quality on difficult materials is required.
Designed for use in DCGT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for D-shape (55-degree diamond) inserts with a 3252 size code. Verify toolholder pocket tolerance and insert seating before use.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturers specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care; edges are brittle and can chip if dropped or contacted with hard surfaces.
