The KENNAMETAL 1161914 is a CPMT-style solid carbide turning insert with a TiN PVD coating and KC730 grade designation. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle, and a screw-on holding method. The insert measures 0.254 inches in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, and an insert thickness of 0.0938 inches. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. With two cutting edges and a positive side clearance, this insert delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It is installed by licensed machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC730 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance with adequate toughness for demanding cutting conditions. Typical operations include turning, facing, and boring. The 80-degree diamond shape allows access to tight shoulder angles, and the maximum depth of cut is 0.049 inches, keeping the insert within its intended finishing range. The screw-on mounting method ensures positive registration and quick indexing during production runs.
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for CPMT21505 and CPMT060202 insert seats respectively. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and all power locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to avoid rocking or misalignment. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before indexing to a fresh cutting edge. Disposal of worn carbide inserts should follow local regulations for industrial waste.
