The KENNAMETAL 1161907 is a solid carbide turning insert with a CPGT21.51LF geometry and KC730 manufacturer grade. It carries a PVD-applied TiN coating designed to deliver high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and an 11-degree relief angle. With a honed cutting edge style and LF chip breaker, it is optimized for finishing and light machining operations. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the insert length is 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). The screw-on holding method secures the insert during high-precision turning passes.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing turning, facing, and boring operations. The KC730 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S). The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand toolholders configured for CPGT-style inserts. Finishing and light roughing passes in tight-tolerance applications are the primary use cases. The two cutting edges allow the insert to be indexed once before replacement, supporting cost-effective cutting tool management in production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on replacement insert for CPGT-style toolholders accepting a 2151 ANSI size code (ISO size code 060204) with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver specified for the screw-on clamp system — do not overtighten the mounting screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Confirm insert seating and toolholder pocket cleanliness before resuming cuts.
