The KENNAMETAL 1161883 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designed for precision finishing and light machining operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. Identified by industry standard code CCGT2151LF, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake and side clearance geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), and insert length is 0.2539 inches (6.45 mm). It is held in place via screw-on mounting and delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. The KC730 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across its target material range.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and all energy sources locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use; do not use an insert that shows edge chipping or coating delamination. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid impact damage to the cutting edges.
