The KENNAMETAL 1161843 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning applications. Designated CCMT3252MF under the ANSI standard and CCMT09T308 under ISO, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle and a 7-degree relief angle. The KC730 grade uses a PVD-applied TiN coating to deliver high wear resistance while maintaining edge toughness. With a 0.375 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, and an MF chip breaker geometry, this insert is optimized for finishing and medium machining passes. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, and machinists familiar with indexable tooling will recognize this as a screw-on style insert with two usable cutting edges.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The KC730 grade characteristics cover Steel (P), Stainless Steel (M), and Cast Iron (K) workpiece materials, ranging from high wear resistance to moderate toughness. Superalloys and titanium are listed as secondary workpiece materials. The MF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and medium machining cuts, making this insert appropriate for close-tolerance work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. It is installed in CCMT-style screw-on toolholders compatible with the 3252 size code.
Designed for use in CCMT3252-compatible screw-on turning toolholders. Conforms to ANSI insert code CCMT3252 and ISO insert code CCMT09T308, ensuring dimensional interchangeability with any toolholder specified for those standards.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide substrate.
