The KENNAMETAL 1161350 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMS332 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under the KC850 grade designation, which delivers moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and six usable cutting edges. Neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for standard right-hand toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists use this insert for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications at medium machining chip loads.
This insert is designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations in production and job-shop environments. The KC850 grade is optimized for steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), and select superalloys (ISO S), making it a versatile choice where a single grade needs to handle multiple workpiece materials. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry suit rigid, stable clamping setups with KENLOC-style clamp-and-pin toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is rated at 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), targeting finishing and light semi-finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENLOC-series turning toolholders accepting TNMS geometry inserts with clamp-and-pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code TNMS332 and ISO insert code TNMS160408.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate — refer to the toolholder manufacturer torque specification. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
