The KENNAMETAL 1161329 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMS432 geometry, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN under the KC850 grade designation, which balances moderate wear resistance with toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, a 90-degree square shape, and a negative rake and relief angle configuration. With 8 available cutting edges, this insert delivers extended tool life per unit. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is suited for medium machining conditions on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, and also covers special and super alloys as a primary workpiece target. The KENLOC series clamping system uses a clamp-and-pin insert-holding method, making it compatible with KENLOC-style toolholders. Typical applications include continuous to mildly interrupted cuts at moderate feed rates and depths. The maximum depth of cut is 0.049 inches (1.25 mm). It is used in both production shop and job-shop environments handling P, M, K, and S material classifications per ISO turning standards.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept SNMS-geometry inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Suitable for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special or super alloy (S) workpieces per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the KENLOC clamping screw and ensure the pin and clamp seat the insert fully and evenly before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches (1.25 mm) under medium machining conditions to avoid chipping the cutting edge.
