The KENNAMETAL 1161208 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in a triangular (T) shape with a 60-degree included angle and a screw-on holding method, this insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The K68 grade delivers high wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it well suited for interrupted and continuous cuts across a range of workpiece materials. With a negative side clearance and positive rake geometry, it provides stable cutting action and controlled chip formation during roughing and medium machining operations. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician would be the typical installer.
This insert is rated for use on stainless steel (M-class), cast iron (K-class), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N-class), and heat-resistant superalloys (S-class), as indicated by its P, M, K, N, and S primary workpiece material codes. It is appropriate for both production turning cells and job-shop environments where a single insert grade must handle varied material types. The chip breaker designation P targets roughing through medium machining depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm).
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on turning insert compatible with toolholders accepting ANSI insert code T321 and ISO insert code T160304. Industry standard number DPGT32502LF. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm pocket and screw compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
