The KENNAMETAL 1161201 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMP331K geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert carries the K68 grade, which delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness for machining stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating buildup would be a concern. With four cutting edges and a negative rake angle, this insert is engineered for efficient stock removal in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for medium machining operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, and cast iron. The VNMP geometry with a neutral hand orientation fits a range of standard KENLOC toolholders accepting the VNMP insert style. Typical applications include external and internal turning on CNC lathes and turning centers where precise chip control at moderate depths of cut is required. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for finishing and light semi-finishing passes.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting VNMP-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMP331 and ISO insert code VNMP160404, allowing cross-reference to compatible holders meeting those standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and all axes locked before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate clamp or pin holding hardware specified for the toolholder, and verify seating before returning the tool to service. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this geometry.
