The KENNAMETAL 1161199 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMP331 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and negative side clearance, making it suited for high-precision turning on demanding workpiece materials. The insert carries a K68 uncoated grade with honed cutting edges, delivering high wear resistance across stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, an insert length of 16.61 mm (approximately 0.654 inches), and a corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches), this insert is a neutral-hand, multi-use tool designed for use by machinists and CNC tool setters in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is appropriate for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, and cast iron. The KENLOC holding method uses a clamp-and-pin system, so it is compatible with toolholders designed for that insert-retention style. The medium chip-breaker geometry suits general-purpose material removal rates rather than light finishing or heavy roughing extremes. This insert is sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed for use in KENLOC-compatible toolholders that accept VNMP-style inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMP331 and ISO insert code VNMP160404.
Installation and indexing of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tool setter with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket surfaces before tightening the clamp to ensure proper seating and edge alignment. Inspect the pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw.
