The KENNAMETAL 1161173 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. Manufactured to the SNMS432 ANSI standard and ISO designation SNMS120408, this insert features a square shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313-inch corner radius, and a 90-degree included angle. The K68 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for interrupted and continuous cuts across stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials. The uncoated, bright finish preserves the sharpness of the honed cutting edge. With 8 available cutting edges, this insert offers extended tooling value per unit.
This insert fits within the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series toolholding system and is intended for use in turning, facing, and boring operations. Its negative rake geometry and negative side clearance (clearance code N, tolerance code M) are engineered for stable cutting performance. Typical applications include medium machining operations on stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both production and job shop environments. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods and accommodates a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working on lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL KENLOC series toolholders that accept SNMS432 inserts held by clamp and pin methods. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for this insert geometry.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure the clamp and pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge stability.
