The KENNAMETAL 1161148 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMP433 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch) corner radius. The insert is uncoated (bright finish), neutral hand, and carries the K68 grade, which delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness across stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous and aluminum workpiece materials. With four cutting edges, negative rake, and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is designed for medium machining applications on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, and cast iron. Its CNMP433 geometry conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, making it compatible with toolholders dimensioned to accept the CNMP120412 ISO equivalent. Typical install scenarios include external turning, facing passes, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers where a negative-style, mechanically clamped or pin-retained insert seat is used. The maximum recommended depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch).
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders and other negative-style insert seats dimensioned for the CNMP433 (ANSI) or CNMP120412 (ISO) insert geometry, using clamp or pin insert-holding methods.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or seating the pin to ensure accurate edge positioning. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to prevent edge chipping or premature failure.
