The KENNAMETAL 1160898 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries the industry standard designation CNGP431 (ISO: CNGP120404) and is finished with a PVD-applied TiN coating for enhanced wear resistance. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting geometry suited to medium machining conditions. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch), this insert fits standard CNGP-style toolholders using a clamp-and-pin holding method. The KC730 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It is intended for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with secondary applicability to additional M and S material groups. The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry make it appropriate for standard external turning passes, facing cuts, and internal boring applications. It is used by machinists and CNC operators in industrial, aerospace, and general metalworking settings. The chip breaker is rated for medium machining depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm).
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or standard supply insert for CNGP-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with negative relief and clamp-and-pin retention. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and de-energize the machine, then lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and confirm clamp and pin engagement before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert grade and chip breaker designation.
