The KENNAMETAL 1160843 is a solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiN coating, designed for precision metal cutting in production turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries the ANSI designation CNGG432LF and ISO designation CNGG120408, and belongs to the KENLOC series. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for finishing and light machining passes. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and four usable cutting edges. The honed cutting edge style and LF chip breaker geometry support consistent chip control at light depths of cut.
This insert is intended for machining steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. It is appropriate for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in both job shop and production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators will typically select this insert for light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. The KENLOC holding method uses a clamp and pin system for secure and repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
Designed for use in KENLOC-compatible toolholders accepting CNGG432 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys, and titanium (S) workpiece materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the KENLOC toolholder to avoid cracking the insert or damaging the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool-tip position.
