The KENNAMETAL 1160363 is a DNMG431K solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, grade KC850. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN that delivers moderate wear resistance combined with high toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. Insert length is 0.6102 inches (15.50 mm) and thickness is 3/16 inch. Clearance code is N (negative relief), tolerance code M, and hand is neutral. Installed via clamp or pin-lock holding methods, this insert suits CNC turning centers and manual lathes in production and job-shop environments.
The 1160363 is rated for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (special and super alloys), with secondary ratings in K and M. The KC850 grade is engineered to balance wear resistance and toughness, making it suitable for moderate to interrupted cutting conditions. Typical applications include external and internal turning, facing, and light profiling on steel, stainless, and cast iron components. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The chip breaker designation is K, optimized for controlled chip formation in these material categories.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNMG431 inserts with clamp or pin-lock retention. ANSI insert code DNMG431 and ISO insert code DNMG150404 identify compatible toolholder pockets. Material grade classifications C5 and C6 apply.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not use worn or damaged clamping screws. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
