The KENNAMETAL 1160305 is a TNMG434 triangular turning insert in the KC850 grade, designed for single-point metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built from solid carbide and finished with a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, this insert delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.8661 inches (22 millimeters), corner radius is 0.0625 inches (1/16 inch), and insert thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch). The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry make it a versatile choice across turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is used in production and job-shop environments for machining steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, with rated applicability also extending to special and super alloys. The KC850 grade targets moderate wear-resistance and toughness across ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Typical applications include general turning and medium machining passes where controlled chip breaking and edge stability are required. The KENLOC series designation indicates compatibility with pin-and-clamp style toolholders using the TNMG seating configuration.
Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders within the KENNAMETAL KENLOC system, accepting inserts with clamp or pin holding. ANSI insert code TNMG434; ISO insert code TNMG220416. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and select superalloy workpieces per material grade codes P, M, K, and S.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or qualified tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Verify the toolholder pocket is clean and free of debris before inserting to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw or pin — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under uneven clamping force.
