The KENNAMETAL 1160266 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG643 geometry, manufactured under the KENLOC series with the KC850 grade designation. It features a multilayer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — engineered for moderate wear resistance combined with high toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, a 90-degree square shape, and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. With 8 available cutting edges, this insert delivers extended tool life in production turning applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is suited for medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as select special and super alloy materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of toolholder setups. The SNMG643 geometry is a standard indexable profile used in both ANSI and ISO compliant toolholders, and the KENLOC series is designed for clamp and pin holding methods. Typical applications include roughing to semi-finishing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in SNMG643-compatible KENLOC series toolholders accepting clamp or pin holding methods; suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloy workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all axes are at a safe home position before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp or pin; an improperly seated insert is a common cause of premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and verify insert orientation matches the intended cutting direction before resuming operation.
