The KENNAMETAL 1160199 is a CNMG642 geometry turning insert in the KC850 grade, designed for use in precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, this insert delivers a balanced combination of wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides strong cutting-edge geometry suitable for turning, facing, and boring. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it fits standard KENLOC-style toolholders and is held in place by clamp or pin methods. Four usable cutting edges reduce per-edge tooling cost on high-volume production runs.
This insert is suited for medium machining applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, and also performs in special and super alloy cutting. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across a range of turning setups. Typical use cases include general-purpose OD turning, facing passes, and boring operations in both job-shop and production environments. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style helps manage entry forces and extend tool life on interrupted or continuous cuts. It is a field-replaceable consumable installed by machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians as part of routine insert indexing.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG642 (ISO: CNMG190608) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special and super alloys. Material grade designations C5 and C6 apply.
Insert indexing and replacement is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified for the KENLOC toolholder to seat the insert securely before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) for the conditions specified by the toolholder manufacturer.
