The KENNAMETAL 1160185 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG432P geometry, grade KC850, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert has an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.03125 inch corner radius. Cutting edge style is honed, and the rake angle is 10 degrees negative. It is engineered for roughing and medium machining passes and is part of the KENLOC series, compatible with standard CNMG clamp-and-pin toolholders.
This insert is applied in ferrous and mixed-material turning environments. The KC850 grade targets steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with moderate wear resistance and toughness across those categories. It also covers special and super alloys at a moderate performance level. Multi-use applications include turning, facing, and boring. The insert follows both ANSI (CNMG432) and ISO (CNMG120408) standards, making it interchangeable with toolholders dimensioned to either standard. It is suited for job shops, production turning cells, and maintenance machining where a single insert geometry must handle varied workpiece materials across multiple operations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG432 (ANSI) or CNMG120408 (ISO) insert geometry with clamp or pin holding method. Industry standard number CNMG432P. Verify toolholder pocket clearance code N and tolerance code M before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Always follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque procedure for the clamping screw or pin to ensure the insert seats correctly in the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry and workpiece material combination.
