The KENNAMETAL 1160078 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert with ANSI code VNGA332 and ISO code VNGA160408, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Grade K68 delivers high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness, making it well suited for demanding materials including stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, low-resistance cutting geometry. The flat-top chip breaker, honed cutting edge, and negative rake and side clearance geometry support stable, controlled material removal across a range of turning operations.

This insert is used in production and job-shop environments where multiple operations are required from a single tooling setup. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The four available cutting edges extend tool life and reduce per-edge tooling cost. It fits the KENLOC series toolholders and is held in place via clamp and pin method, ensuring rigid seating under interrupted cuts and high-feed passes. Applications span ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S.

Installation Notes

Turning inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in place. Use the correct torque on the clamping screw or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
