The KENNAMETAL 1158479 is a solid carbide turning insert in the RCMH round style, designed for high-performance metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe operations. It carries the KC850 grade designation and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, delivering a balance of moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert has a 1-inch inscribed circle, a 0.375-inch thickness, and a 0.5-inch corner radius. With four usable cutting edges and a positive rake geometry, this insert is well suited for medium machining operations where tool life and consistent surface finish are priorities.
This insert is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with secondary applicability to special and super alloys. It supports turning, facing, and boring operations, making it a versatile choice for job shops and production environments running a mix of part families. The screw-on holding method (Kentrol series, also referenced as the RCMH screw-on series) provides secure clamping without top clamps, keeping the cutting zone unobstructed. The ANSI insert code is RCMH86 and the ISO insert code is RCMH250900.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on turning insert conforming to ANSI insert code RCMH86 and ISO insert code RCMH250900; fits compatible RCMH-style screw-on toolholders rated for a 1-inch inscribed circle round insert. Verified compatible with steel and stainless steel primary workpieces; secondary use on cast iron and special alloys as noted in the grade characteristics.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert screw and do not overtighten, as insert damage or seat distortion can result. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
