The KENNAMETAL 1114926 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the Top Notch series standard, this right-hand insert carries the KC850 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The cutting width is 0.2500 inches (6.35 mm) and the maximum depth of cut is 0.5000 inches (12.70 mm). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker support controlled chip evacuation in medium to finishing-range cuts. Corner radius measures 0.0225 inches (0.57 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with steel, cast iron, and similar C5-C6 material grades are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for external grooving applications where repeatable dimensional accuracy and surface finish are required. The Top Notch series is a common platform on production turning equipment used in automotive, aerospace, and general metalworking environments. With an insert seat size of 4 and an included angle of 55 degrees, it fits standard Top Notch-compatible toolholders. The maximum depth of cut range runs from 0.3000 to 1.0000 inches (10.00 to 20.00 mm), covering a broad range of groove profiles in medium-volume production or job-shop settings.
Designed for use in Top Notch series-compatible toolholders with an insert seat size of 4. Compatible with material grades C5 and C6. MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number NGD4250R/LK. Specific toolholder model compatibility should be confirmed using the KENNAMETAL Top Notch toolholder selection guide.
Installation of grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping mechanism for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for this insert grade and geometry.
