The KENNAMETAL 1114486 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running uncoated in a bright finish, this right-hand insert carries a K313 grade designation - a carbide formulation suited for machining cast iron and nonferrous materials. The cutting width measures 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 6.35 mm (0.250 inches). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees combined with the K chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow and reduces cutting forces during grooving passes. The corner radius is 0.19 mm (0.0075 inches), providing a near-sharp edge profile appropriate for fine finish grooving work.
This insert is part of the Kennametal Top Notch series, a system widely used in production turning environments for grooving, parting, and profiling. The NGD insert style with an included angle of 55 degrees and a lead angle of 3 degrees makes it well-suited for right-hand grooving applications where clearance and chip control are priorities. It is typically installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians on lathes equipped with Top Notch-compatible toolholders.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series toolholders that accept NGD-style inserts in the 3094 insert size. Consult the Kennametal Top Notch toolholder catalog to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully powered down and in an E-stop or locked-out state. Use the appropriate Kennametal Top Notch clamping hardware and torque the insert screw with the manufacturer-specified wrench - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify correct hand orientation before resuming cutting operations.
