The KENNAMETAL 1114300 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating, delivering wear resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm (0.1098 inch). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker promote controlled chip formation. The corner radius measures 0.19 mm (0.0075 inch). Machinists and tool-room professionals working with carbide-grade C2, C3, and C4 workpiece materials will find this insert a direct-fit solution for tight-tolerance grooving work.
This insert is suited for external grooving and profiling operations on lathes and turning centers where precise groove width and depth control are required. Its left-hand cut orientation makes it appropriate for specific toolholder arrangements where right-to-left cutting direction is needed. The Top Notch series is a widely used platform in production turning environments. The K chip breaker geometry and positive rake are particularly effective when working with steels and cast irons classified under material grades C2, C3, and C4, helping to maintain surface finish and dimensional accuracy in repetitive cuts.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NG-style left-hand grooving inserts. Compatible with workpiece material grades C2, C3, and C4 as specified by the manufacturer.
This insert should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with indexable carbide tooling. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut range of 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm to avoid insert fracture or premature wear.
