The KENNAMETAL 1114235 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC730 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, delivering wear resistance and extended edge life in a range of metal cutting applications. The insert features a right-hand orientation, a 4.83 mm (0.1902 inch) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 5.08 mm (0.2000 inch). A positive rake angle of 10 degrees reduces cutting forces, while the K chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert belongs to the Top Notch series and is sized at NP3012, making it a metric-measurement insert suited for moderate grooving depths in the 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm maximum depth of cut range. It is applicable to material grades C2, C3, and C4, which correspond to a broad cross-section of cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and non-metallic materials. The right-hand configuration and 55-degree included angle make it well suited for standard external groove profiles where positive rake and controlled chip flow are priorities.
Designed for use with Kennametal Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NP3012 insert size. Compatible with material grades C2, C3, and C4 workpiece materials. Refer to the Kennametal Top Notch toolholder catalog to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down the machine and engage the spindle lock before handling or indexing cutting inserts. Use the correct Torx or insert clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid damaging the seating pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating the new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
