The KENNAMETAL 1114230 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running the KC730 grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge toughness on a range of workpiece materials. The left-hand cutting orientation and NG3047K insert style place it in the Top Notch series, a widely used platform for indexable grooving toolholders. Cutting width is 1.19 mm and maximum depth of cut is 1.91 mm, making this insert suited to narrow, shallow groove profiles. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker support controlled chip evacuation during interrupted or continuous grooving cuts.
This insert is intended for machining applications involving C2, C3, and C4 material grades, which correspond to cast irons, nonferrous metals, and heat-resistant alloys in general carbide classification systems. The 55-degree included angle, 0.19 mm corner radius, and 3-degree lead angle suit close-tolerance grooving, undercut work, and profiling cuts where dimensional accuracy at the groove floor is critical. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users. The insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units per order.

Installation of indexable grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause seating errors and premature edge failure. Confirm insert orientation matches the programmed cut direction before resuming operation.
