The KENNAMETAL 1114218 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the KC730 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiN finish, this left-hand insert delivers a cutting width of 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm (0.150 inches). The full-radius geometry with a 1.19 mm corner radius and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees promotes clean chip formation and reduced cutting forces. It is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This insert belongs to the KENNAMETAL Top Notch series and is suited for grooving operations on materials corresponding to C2, C3, and C4 material grades, which generally include cast irons, non-ferrous materials, and non-metallic materials. The K chip breaker geometry and 55-degree included angle make it appropriate for moderate-depth grooving passes in both roughing and finishing contexts on metalworking turning equipment.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders that accept NR-style, size 3047 left-hand grooving inserts. Compatible with C2, C3, and C4 material grade workpiece materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or clamp screw tool specified for the Top Notch toolholder to seat the insert securely without over-tightening. Verify insert hand orientation matches the toolholder before beginning any cut.
