The KENNAMETAL 1113885 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NG style Top Notch series, this right-hand insert carries a KC850 grade with a CVD-applied TiC, TiCN, and TiN multilayer coating for thermal resistance and edge wear protection. The cutting width measures 1.98 mm (0.0780 inches) with a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0941 inches). A 0.19 mm (0.0075 inch) corner radius and a neutral rake geometry suit finishing and light roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert in compatible Top Notch grooving toolholders.
This insert is suited for grooving applications on production turning equipment in both job shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The KC850 carbide grade with CVD multilayer coating targets steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials in the C5 and C6 material grade ranges. The Top Notch series is a common platform in turning departments where quick insert indexing and repeatable seating are priorities. The included angle of 55 degrees and a lead angle of 3 degrees define the insert geometry for narrow-groove profiling work.
Designed for use in Top Notch series grooving toolholders. MSC/Manufacturer cross-reference number NG3078R/L. This is a single-use insert; confirm toolholder seat compatibility before installation.
Grooving inserts of this type are installed and indexed by qualified machinists following machine tool builder lockout/tagout procedures before any tooling change. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using the correct Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper support and avoid premature insert fracture. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert size.
