The KENNAMETAL 1113779 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NF3125K style in the Top Notch series, this insert features a KC850 grade substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN. The cutting width is 0.1252 inches (3.18 mm) and the maximum depth of cut reaches 0.1500 inches (3.81 mm). Left-hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 10 degrees support clean chip evacuation during grooving. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert for consistent groove geometry and long tool life on C5 and C6 material grades.
This insert is suited for grooving applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials falling within C5 and C6 material grade classifications. The K chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation in medium to finish grooving passes. Typical install scenarios include external grooving on turned components where groove width consistency and surface finish are critical. The included angle of 55 degrees and a corner radius of 0.0075 inches (0.19 mm) make it appropriate for applications requiring sharp, defined groove shoulders and minimal burring.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENNAMETAL Top Notch series left-hand grooving toolholders accepting the NF3125K insert style. Consult the toolholder documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamping compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or undertighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
