The KENNAMETAL 1113764 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the KC850 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert has a 4.80 mm (0.1890 inch) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 9.53 mm (0.3752 inch). With a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a K-style chip breaker, it promotes controlled chip evacuation in a range of steel and alloy machining applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for external grooving applications where depth of cut ranges from 5.00 mm to 10.00 mm. The NFD insert style with a right-hand orientation makes it appropriate for standard lathe setups where the tool approaches from the right. The 55-degree included angle and a 0.57 mm (0.0224 inch) corner radius support detail grooving work on ferrous materials graded C5 and C6. It belongs to the Top Notch series and fits a size-4 insert seat. The lead angle of 3 degrees and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces, making it a practical choice for medium to finish grooving passes on steel components.
Designed for use with size-4 Top Notch series insert seats. The MSC and manufacturer cross-reference number is NFD4189R/LK. Confirm toolholder compatibility with the NFD insert style and seat size 4 before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is locked out before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer for Top Notch-style seats. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and consistent cutting geometry.
