The KENNAMETAL 1113081 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Top Notch series, it carries a KC730 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiN coating that improves wear resistance and edge life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 2.39 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm, making it well suited for moderate-depth grooving where dimensional accuracy and surface finish matter. It is configured for left-hand cutting with a neutral rake angle and a 0.19 mm corner radius. Machinists and CNC tooling technicians install this insert as part of a Top Notch compatible toolholder system.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry is required. The KC730 grade is engineered for steel, cast iron, and similar materials classified under C2, C3, and C4 material grades. It is suited for both light and medium-duty grooving passes in job-shop and production-floor applications. The 55-degree included angle and 3-degree lead angle contribute to controlled chip formation during grooving cuts. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-crib technicians working on turning equipment in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing settings.
Designed for use with Top Notch series toolholders that accept NG-style inserts. Compatible with workpiece materials graded C2, C3, and C4. No additional specific model or system compatibility data was provided in the product input.
This insert is installed and indexed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the toolholder secured before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Top Notch clamping mechanism and torque the locking screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification found in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and accurate groove dimensions.
