The KENNAMETAL 1113079 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the NG3078 insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries a KC730 grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating for improved wear resistance and surface finish on the workpiece. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 1.98 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm. A neutral rake geometry and a 0.19 mm corner radius make it suitable for controlled, consistent material removal. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert when grooving ferrous and non-ferrous materials within the C2, C3, and C4 material grades.
This insert fits into Top Notch series toolholders configured for NG-style inserts. It is suited for external grooving and light parting operations on bar stock, shafts, and turned components in both production and job-shop environments. The left-hand orientation positions it for specific toolholder setups where the cutting force direction requires a left-hand insert. The 3078 insert size keeps it compatible with the corresponding NG3 pocket toolholders commonly found in light-to-medium turning applications. No full-radius geometry is applied, which preserves sharp groove wall definition.
Designed for use with Top Notch series NG3-style toolholders. Suitable for machining material grades C2, C3, and C4. Insert size designation is 3078 within the Top Notch NG insert family.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp to the correct seating torque per the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
