The KENNAMETAL 1113046 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KC730 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiN coating, which provides wear resistance and extended tool life on a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a left-hand orientation, a 1.04 mm cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 1.27 mm. A neutral rake geometry and a 0.09 mm corner radius support controlled chip formation and surface finish. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for grooving operations on ferrous metals and non-ferrous materials falling within material grades C2, C3, and C4. It is intended for use in Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NG-style insert in size 2041. Typical applications include O-ring groove machining, snap-ring groove cutting, and parting-off operations on small-diameter workpieces where a narrow 1.04 mm cutting width is required. The 55-degree included angle and 3-degree lead angle contribute to stable entry and exit in confined groove geometries. This insert is a metric-measurement-type component suited to precision turning work in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in Top Notch series toolholders accepting NG-style inserts in size 2041. Suitable for material grades C2, C3, and C4 workpiece materials.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle stopped and all energy sources locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct Top Notch series insert clamp and seating screw torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or contamination before seating the insert, as debris can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Replacement of worn or chipped inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator.
